Sorry for the newbie question, but I only just discovered this and I'm hoping to try it on my Pimoroni Tufty Badge.

Just as a quick question: How difficult would it be to change the VGA output to use an ST7789 type TFT display like the one included on the Tufty Badge?
See the reply above about getting the screen to work. My first step would be to download the version of BBC Basic for Pico without the VGA driver and check the USB-C to USB-A cable works as expected.

For example, after loading the binary does the badge appear as a USB serial device connected to the host computer. Assuming this works, you can then start looking at what needs to be done to support the display. Being careful so VGA still works as a compile time option would be nice.

We cross posted.

My thoughts related to your reply are as follows:
  • I think a proficient C programmer could add the desired functionality in a month.
    • The result might reach Hackaday headline levels of fame for a week.
      • It's not an ideal Pico project for learning C.
Assuming a 40 hour work week and US$ 50 per hour plus benefits, the cost of labour needed to make the changes has 12000 value. Note this is just a random number. Fido usually works for dog treats but is busy sleeping.

Fortunately the VGA version functions well.
