Beginners • Re: Connectting 220V to Raspberry PI GIO pins

So, if I'm reading things correctly, the top level goal is to get Google Home to trigger some code to run on a Pi when one of the Google controllers hears the appropriate trigger words?

Looking at https://developers.home.google.com/apis, it looks like Google Home can control random 3rd party devices over the Matter protocol. Could you not turn the Pi into a Matter device, with just software, letting Google trigger code on the Pi that way? That seems like it could be much easier, and much simpler than using a mains voltage smart plug to drive GPIO pins.

I could be missing something, I'm certainly not any sort of expert on Matter, Google Home, and home automation in general.

The solution might even be close to one published in an ARM blog:

Build a Matter home automation service using Raspberry Pi, Arm Virtual Hardware and Python
